About the Founders

Veronica Jaramillo

Co-Founder @FOODTRUTHPROJECT

Veronica Jaramillo is a passionate science communicator and food scientist with a deep commitment to demystifying food, health, and wellness misinformation. As the founder of the Food Truth Project, launched in 2023, Veronica has delivered over 25 workshops across Canada and the United States, including at international conferences such as the Advancing Women in Agriculture Conference and the International Association on Color Manufacturers Conference, having a total reach of over 2000 people. Their work focuses on using food science and critical thinking to empower audiences to navigate the overwhelming world of nutrition and wellness information. 

In addition to running workshops, Veronica holds two public health roles with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the Unbiased Science Podcast. In their role with the Operations & Emergency Communications team at CFIA, they ensure timely and accessible communication of public health information. With Unbiased Science, Veronica creates evidence-based content on topics like food additives, dietary supplements, and food safety, tackling misconceptions and providing clarity on complex subjects to an audience of over 260,000 people.

A dynamic speaker, Veronica blends their background in food science and public health to engage diverse audiences. Their work has made a significant impact in fostering a better understanding of food and health, especially in debunking common myths about supplements, color additives, and viral misinformation trends. 

 

While Veronica is currently completing her Master’s Degree in Food Safety at McGill University, she are also actively involved in mentoring students, and presenting at global conferences, all while making science accessible and fun.

Priscilla Leftakis

Co-Founder @FOODTRUTHPROJECT

Priscilla Leftakis (she/her) graduated from McGill University in 2023 with a Bachelors of Food Science. She currently works as a quality control manager at Yourbarfactory, in Quebec, Canada. Outside of her professional endeavours, she enjoys travelling, reading fantasy novels and is passionate about educating others on food safety & food science principles!
